Dr. Julius B. Lejju
Dr. Lejju is a senior lecturer in Biology and Associate Dean in the Faculty of Science at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. He is an Honorary Research Associate of the Institute of Archaeology at University College London. Dr. Lejju specializes in environmental change research, especially reconstructing past human-environment interactions in the great lakes region of central Africa using multi disciplinary and multi proxy approaches (e.g. historical, documentary, archaeological and sedimentary records). He is involved in training graduates students in environmental change research studies and he is currently conducting a project on reconstructing climate and environmental history of Lake Victoria region and its long term implications on riparian livelihoods.
Research interests
Climate and environmental changes, Reconstructing human -environmental interactions, human impacts on landscape changes, environmental archaeology, archaeo-botany, Conservation and management of biological resources, Rangeland Management and Biodiversity Conservation.
Current Research
- Conducting research on assessment of climate change and human inducedenvironmental changes in lake Victoria basin for the last 1000 years to present
- Conducting a collaborative research between Mbarara University and University College London on Lake-scape Histories: Human environment interactions inwestern Victoria Nyanza 2,500BP to present.

RESEARCH INTEREST
- Biodiversity inventories
- Environmental health
- Natural resource management and Conservation Biology
- Biodiversity and Climate change
I have conducted research about human - wildlife conservation conflicts in Lake Mburo National Park. I still continue to research about the same in Uganda’s savannah protected areas; presently in Queen Elizabeth National park.
My Interest in conservation also led me to research into the Feeding Ecology and implications in conservation of Chimpanzees in the Albertine rift: case study of Kalinzu Forest.
Presently my focus is Biodiversity maintenance in the face of Climate change and human impact. I’ m presently researching on the influence of Climate change and human induced environmental degradation in the Lake Victoria basin.
